Dr. Chaunise "Chaun" Powell, LCSW, PPS, CWA
Founder of New Era Pedagogics
Dr. Chaunise “Chaun” Powell has dedicated more than 13 years to serving children, families, schools, and communities through social work, education, behavioral health, and systems leadership. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker and educational leader, she earned her Master of Social Work and Doctorate in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Social Justice. Her career has included work in child welfare, residential treatment, school social work, school and district administration, county office leadership, higher education, and clinical practice.
Dr. Powell has led efforts across California to strengthen the systems that support the whole child and family. She led the Youth Health & Wellness Department at the Santa Clara County Office of Education and later established the Medical Billing Department, Positive Attendance Care Team, and County Community Schools teams in Alameda County Office of Education, where she served as Senior Chief of Student Services. Her leadership has included work connected to California’s Community Schools Partnership Program and Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative, while securing and managing more than $100 million in grants and contracts to expand services for children, youth, and families.
Dr. Powell is the Founder of New Era Pedagogics, a statewide therapy and consulting practice that partners with schools, government agencies, community organizations, and health professionals to improve outcomes and strengthen systems. Through her work, she provides consultation, professional learning, clinical supervision, therapy and support to organizations seeking to build more equitable, culturally responsive, and community-centered systems of care.
